Shelly Bay Library 1 (2021)
The first project of a three phase design exploration of a library for the Shelly Bay community. The focus of this project is the relationship between form and site.
The library lowers itself down into the rocks below, allowing the rocks to manipulate the floor plane.
This also creates a habitat for local penguins to nest.
Glazed windows to the north offer a panoramic view of the Wellington Harbour.
The rocks below become expressed on the interior through the altered floor plane, and the design becomes embedded into the site.
With entry on either side of the building, the flow through the building to the wharf is considered.
Simple conceptual sketches which drove the design.
Sketching over the site to explore potential ideas.
Diagrams which communicate the design moves which amalgamate into the final concept.
